From the FAQ
Alarich
After an ability on a Roman card is used, deal 1 damage to the warrior using the ability.
•An ability is considered 'used' when its effects come into play. Reveal abilities are used during the reveal step, 'at start of' round/turn abilities are used at those times, and Action Abilities are used when the action is taken. If an ability reacts to a game event, the ability is used when the reacting player chooses to activate the ability.
•For example, a card ability that reads 'Reveal: This round, your attacks deal +1 damage' is used only once, during the reveal step, not whenever you deal damage with an attack. One that reads 'Action: This round, your attack rolls gain +1' is used when the action is taken, not whenever you make an attack roll.
•An optional ability is only used when the player chooses to use the effect. The ability 'Once each turn, when you hit an opponent, gain 1 life' would not be considered used if the payer did not gain the life. If the effect of the ability is prevented, the ability is still considered to be used.
History in Brief
Anachronism Package Blurb
"After rising through the ranks in the Roman army, Alarich was made king of the Goths by the men in his ranks, who raised him up on a shield to proclaim their independence from the mighty Roman Empire. In the years that followed, he marched on Constantinople, Athens, Sparta, and Corinth, conquering vast swaths of territory throughout Europe. Using skills learned from his time in the Roman legions, he advanced to Italy and ultimately sacked Rome herself. She, who had been mistress of the world, now lay at the feet of the Goths. Alarich brings a calculated understanding of strategy, along with lessons learned from decades of warfare, to the Anachronism arena. He strives to achieve great goals with relentless determination, never stopping or settling for less than his desires. Use this King of the Visigoths to bring your enemies to their knees!"
Trivia
- Alarich, Theodorich, Gaiseric... the last syllable in these names is believed to have been derived from a Celtic root word, reiks, and referred to noble kings of the Germanic tribes.
- Alarich's ability title means "Destroyer of Rome." If you are using Alarich, and your opponent is Roman, it's allowable to begin singing Rammstein's "Zerstören".
