Arminius

Page history last edited by MindBomber 17 years ago

Arminius was a leader of the Cherusci tribe. Trained and given position by the Roman Empire, he then turned around and attempted to secure a Germanic state. He is remembered most for his victory at Teutoburger Wald (Teutoburg Forest).

Waldscharmützel: After you take an action to move, your next attack and defense rolls gain +1.

Returning from military training in Rome to his Cherusci homeland, he raised a great army to fight against the advancing Roman armies. In the Teutoburger Wald, he delivered to Rome her most crushing defeat, as three entire legions vanished overnight and were never heard from again.

From the QCT

When Arminius uses Carpat, is his ability activated once, twice or not at all?

•Only once, as he is only performng one game action. The fact that the ability he's using costs 2 actions does not cause his own text to trigger twice.

Why do you say that using Carpat would trigger at all for Arminius? He says - when you take an action to move. There are several things you can do with an action: Move, attack, use an action ability, or pass. Surely using Carpat is 'using an action to activate an action ability'. The fact that part of that ability happens to involve movement is irrelevant, isn't it?

•Arminius is 'using an action to move'. He is using an action - 2 of them in this case - to use a card ability that causes him to move. Arminuus would also trigger when he used Maid Marion, Uma, or any other card ability that both moves him and costs an action to use.

•We could use similar wording to distinguish between attacks made without an action cost (Sverd, Mangudai Steed) from those that do (Mech, Oliphant, Shuriken).

History in Brief

Anachronism Package Blurb

"Trained in Rome to command great armies, Arminius returned to his Cherusci homeland to raise a great host against the advancing Roman armies. In battle after battle, he remained one step ahead of the Roman legions, always able to take advantage of their weaknesses, and always able to ensure the most devastating defeats. He crushed forces led by Varus, Caecina, and Germanicus, staging ambushes and serving up such detailed and stunning defeats that the Roman perception and fear of the Germanic tribes were forever colored by his victories. His stalwart defense of the Germanic lands stopped the vast Roman Empire from ever conquering the lands east of the Rhine. Arminius brings tactical genius in both field warfare and guerrilla tactics to the Anachronism arena. His swift, decisive actions catch opponents off guard, while his strength and stamina overpower and outlast all of his enemies. Use Arminius, the great Hermann der Cherusker, to ambush and decimate your enemies!"

Trivia
