The chimalli was a round shield used by Aztec warriors. The shields were made of varying materials and designs; the more elite the warrior, the better the chimalli.

Machtitenahuatiliztli: When you are attacked, if you are in the attacker's basic attack grid, add the modifier from your space in the attacker's basic attack grid to your defense roll.

Aztec shields grew in beauty and extravagance with military rank. Of the eight surviving pieces of Aztec featherwork, five are chimalli.
