Gaiseric

Page history last edited by PBworks 17 years, 1 month ago

Gaiseric was a Vandal king who lead his people to a new kingdom, taking over Carthage and North Africa from the Roman Empire. Nearly 45 years after Alarich, Gaiseric also sacked Rome.

Bewaffnet: If you ever have a weapon card in play, discard it immediately.

Angriff - Action: Once each round, make an attack against an adjacent opponent. This attack counts as an attack with a weapon and has a base damage of 2. The attack roll gains +2.

A brilliant military leader, Gaiseric captured Hippo Regius and Carthage. Later, taking advantage of political unrest, he attacked and sacked Rome itself.

Tournament Promo

Gaiseric was the tournament participation card in June of 2006.

From the QCT

1) Does Gaiseric benefit from Ba Duan Jin? The question stands for other cards that allow you multiple weapon attacks.

2) Does Yoshitsune's power prevent Gaiseric from using the Angriff ability?

1) Nope - this is an action ability, not an actual attack with a weapon card. being able to use a weapon more than once is not the same as being able to use an action ability twice.

2) Yes - the attack is a weapon attack, and Yoshitsune prevents against that.

Just one more question concerning Gaiseric:

How does Ostovany Khourosh work against Gaiseric's action ability?

•This ability affects weapon attacks that are taken in the normal way or use the 'if possible' wording. Since abilities that attack adjacent opponents (ike Gaiseric) or use 'at +X' wording don't reference the attack grid for that attack, Ostovany will not affect those attacks.

Can you explain just how weaponless weapon attacks work? Specifically, I am referring to Gaiseric and Daniel Boone, who have similar abilities that create weaponless attacks with weapons.

To what degree do these count as weapon attacks? Does Baba Yaga stop them? Boone says it counts as a weapon attack, but doesn't say it counts as an attack with a weapon, so is it in essence a "weaponless weapon attack," getting around Baba Yaga's restriction?

•These abilities do work slightly differently, and you are correct in your readings of these cards.

•When Gaiseric uses his ability, he is not making a basic attack, and all abilities that key off of weapon attacks work as normal when possible. Obviously, we cannot discard the attacking weapon, or reference its grid or handedness, since these values do not exist. Any ability requiring a specific value for any of these traits will fail.

Daniel Boone can choose to make a basic attack (which will not be affected by Baba Yaga) and then change it's property once the attack has begun (which is too late for the attack to be prevented). Similarly, there is no attacking weapon, so the abilities that reference values on that weapon work as they do for Gaiseric.

Gameplay

Gaiseric is often used with two-card combos that don't involve Weapons. The difficulty with such combos is that they take too long to develop, since it's rarely a good idea to wait until round three to reveal a weapon. With his built-in "weapon," Gaiseric gets around this. Common combos used in a Gaiseric setup might be Mardukh + Sporan, or Zhad + Anastasia Romanovna Zakharyina / a Cavalry card.

Trivia

  • Gaiseric, Alarich, Theodorich... the last syllable in these names is believed to have been derived from a Celtic root word, reiks, and referred to noble kings of the Germanic tribes.
  • He was known as "the Lame," possibly due to an accident as a young man.
