Kupe

Page history last edited by MindBomber 16 years, 10 months ago

Kupe was a legendary warrior from Hawaiki who is found in conflicting narratives. Though he is often credited as the first of the Maori to land upon what is now New Zealand, other narratives place his canoe among the first wave of Maori settlers to the new land of Aotearoa.

Whakahura: At the start of each round, choose an opponent. You may use abilities on that player's warrior or support cards that give damage, attack roll or defense roll bonuses. Your support cards cannot give bonuses to your defense rolls.

After murdering his cousin, Kupe left the ancestral homeland of the Maori. He sailed across the ocean until his wife, Hine Te Aparangi, sighted the islands of New Zealand, which they called Aotearoa, Land of the Long White Cloud.

Does Kupe need to meet the requirements of opponents card abilities to gain bonuses?

• Yes; Kupe is 'using' the ability of the opponent's cards, so if there are any requirements, costs, conditions, or usage restrictions, Kupe must fulfill or abide by them, as necessary.

Because the card is providing an ability that is available to both players, if that ability has a usage restriction (like 'once each round'), then that restriction applies to the number of times the ability my be used in total for the specified period.

Also, bonuses that apply to that specific card (such as Greatsword's bonus to its own attack damage) cannot be used by Kupe unless Kupe can find a way to attack with that specific card.

The situation is Kupe's opponent has Rokunmonsenmon. So far the concensus is that this is how the two abilities interact:

Kupe adds counters to the card (same as his opponent) and once six total counters are on it, whoever put the sixth one on (either Kupe or the opponent) loses.

• Whichever player is executing the ability and adds the sixth counter will lose the game due to Rokumonsenmon's text.

History in Brief

Anachronism Package Blurb

"Fleeing from a crime of murder, Kupe voyaged across the ocean from Hawaiki, the ancient ancestral home of the Maori. After seeing the island of New Zealand for the first time, and naming it Aotearoa (‘Land of the Long White Cloud’), he encountered, according to legend, a giant octopus. Kupe set out in his canoe to kill the beast, and pursued the creature all the way to the Cook Strait where it was finally destroyed. He then returned to Hawaiki to tell of this new land, a return voyage that no other Maori ever accomplished.

Unpredictable and tenacious, use this legendary seafarer’s perseverance and opportunism to vex and undo any opponent you face in the Anachronism arena."
