Loki is the trickster "god" of Norse mythology.

Card Text

(6) Loki (Wind)

NorseInspirationDeity

Kneb - Reveal: Choose an opposing warrior's face-up weapon. If you have a face-up weapon, exchange that card for your opponent's weapon until the end of the round.

God of trickery and mischief, Loki plagues the Aesir with his crafty, often malicious pranks.

Illus.: David Ho • Set 1 • 65/100

Warrior Pack

Loki comes with the Grettir the Strong warrior pack.

From the FAQ

LOKI

Loki and Card Restrictions

•While Loki is in effect, all rules and card abilities that restrict the use of weapons are suspended during the round that Loki is in effect.

•This means that a warrior that receives a 2-handed weapon and has another 1-handed card in play need not discard a card. Similarly, a warrior with two weapons that loses the one that has the 'You may have another weapon' text does not need to discard either weapon during the Loki round.

Loki and discarding cards

•If either player discards the weapon they received from Loki due to a card ability (such as Horn Bow, Khutga, or other cards like Merlin), that card will not be returned to its original owner at the end of the round. The other weapon affected by Loki at the start of the round will still be returned. Note that discarded cards are always placed in their owner's discard pile.

Loki and Shestoper

Shestoper's relevant text:

You may not use another weapon this game.

•This text specifically means that the player that has Shestoper in play cannot use another weapon and Shestoper at the same time. If Shestoper is given to an opponent via Loki, that player doesn't have to abide by the text because of Loki's card requirements suspension (see above).

•Once the Shestoper is returned to its original owner, the above text no longer applies to the player that used Shestoper during the Loki round.

Loki and Ninja

Ninja's relevant text:

This warrior may not use two-handed weapons.

•This text is similarly suspended during the Loki round.

From the QCT

1. Can you target face up card with Couronne Impériale?

•The card doesn't say that you cannot, so yes, you can.

2. If you discard Loki with [Finn MacCumhaill|Finn] after swapping weapons would the weapons be permanently switched, or would the action continue after the card is gone?

3. If #1 is possible what would happen if I turn Loki face down? Would the weapons also be permanently switched?

•Loki's ability has a duration - 'Until the end of the round'. The effects will continue after Loki is discarded, but only until the end of the listed duration.

The question is what happens to the rock when I exchange it with Loki:

- does it go back to the opponent ressource slot, where unable to use its reveal, it dumbly stays useless

- or does it stay in the arena where my opponent can throw it ?

- Is its weapon placed in the arena where the rock was ?

•The cards do physically change locations until the end of the round. Since the new controller of Petrini Maza is not (and cannot possibly be) adjacent to it, it's action ability cannot be used while it is not in a space in the arena.

•The weapon that was placed in the arena may be used normally by that weapon's new controller while it is in a space in the arena.

Gameplay

As a card that swaps cards with your opponent, Loki can be used in various and dastardly ways. In Culture Shock decks, Loki can be used to give an opponent a weapon that is no longer useful or not yet powerful (such as Naegling or Skegox Francisa, and Langseax or Dane Axe). Another popular tactic is to swap weapons, and then discard your opponents' weapon before it reverts back to their control (via any number of abilities, such as those found on Charles Martel or [Finn MacCumhaill]).

Trivia

  • Loki seems to be a favorite of author Neil Gaiman; Loki plays important roles in his American Gods novel, as well as his landmark comic book series, The Sandman.
  • Loki isn't technically a god, per se; he was the son of giants, and never was really part of the Vanir or Æsir.
