Promotional Cards

Page history last edited by MindBomber 16 years, 5 months ago

Promotional cards are cards that TriKing issues outside the normal 100 cards in each set. The easiest way for players to acquire promotional ("promo") cards is by attending tournaments and conventions. All such cards are designated by a "P" in front of its collector's number.

Tournament promos are designated by the Set with which they were printed. They are different from mail-in promos, which are full warrior packs available through UPC redemption found on TriKing's website.

Release

Promotional cards are released at tournaments on a monthly cycle. Each month, a new set of 3 cards are available to players: a participation card, a tournament winner card, and a Tournament Organizer (or 'TO') card.

In addition, TriKing will occasionally release certain promotional cards for special events. Examples might include big conventions (i.e., GenCon), prize incentives (such as the quiz in the now-defunct newsletter), or Mercenary-run tournaments (like the Winter Gauntlet).

Status of Set 8

Currently, Anachronism and TriKing have entered a bit of a rough patch, financially. It has been the better part of a year since Set 7's release, and there is no timetable for Set 8. Michael Brown of TriKing has mentioned that plans are in place to relaunch Anachronism, with a stronger business model. What this Anachronism 2.0 might signify for existing sets is unknown. The common perception is that Set 8 will not see the light of day -- at the very least, not in its current form.

Despite its status, Set 8 is being released pack-by-pack on the Anachronism forums. The game's lead developer, Steve McLaughlin (a.k.a. "Shteevie"), is the one releasing the card texts and sanctioning them for player use. In addition to the packs, he has so far spoiled a few promos from the unprinted Set 8. Starting in October 2007, these promos are meant to be printed out by Mercenaries/TOs, signed & numbered, and given out like normal tournament promos.
