Shestoper

Page history last edited by MindBomber 17 years, 2 months ago

One of the most popular weapons in Anachronism, the Shestoper is a flanged mace from Russia. It's popularity in the game is only surpassed by the amount of questions it generates.

Visshaya Vlast: When attacking with this weapon, make three attack rolls and compare each against the defender's defense roll. Deal this weapon's damage for each attack roll that hits.

From the FAQ

Loki and Shestoper

Shestoper's relevant text:

You may not use another weapon this game.

•This text specifically means that the player that has Shestoper in play cannot use another weapon and Shestoper at the same time. If Shestoper is given to an opponent via Loki, that player doesn't have to abide by the text because of Loki's card requirements suspension (see above).

•Once the Shestoper is returned to its original owner, the above text no longer applies to the player that used Shestoper during the Loki round.

Shestoper

When attacking with this weapon, make three attack rolls and compare each against the defender's defense roll. Deal this weapon's damage for each attack roll that hits. You cannot have another weapon this game.

This card works very differently than many other weapons, and interacts with card abilities in interesting ways:

•You are only making one attack: Any ability that occurs 'when you attack' only happens once when you attack with the Shestoper.

•You are making three attack rolls: Any ability that occurs 'when you make an attack roll' occurs three times when attacking with the Shestoper. Abilities that trigger off of the reult of an attack roll will occur for any attack roll that satisfies the condition, even if that attack roll does not create a hit.

•The three attack rolls are made at the same time, so they all count as your 'next' attack roll, or the 'first' or 'last' attack of a turn or round for abilities that use these phrases.

•The damage dealt is still damage being dealt by a weapon attack, and is not damage from a card ability.

•In order to make a critical hit with this weapon, one of the attack rolls must hit and be doubles. An attack roll that misses but is doubles does not cause a critical hit.

•Critical hits with this weapon will deal double damage as normal, but only the damage caused by the critical attack roll is doubled. There are no rules for 'double critical hits', so multiple hitting doubles rolls will not create more damage. In short: if one or more of the attack rolls causes a critical hit, the attack deals 1 additional damage.

From the QCT

Does Kusubekawasugakeodoshi reduce Camulos, Shuriken, and/or even Shestoper damage?

•Card abilities that deal damage include:

Zhu RongVergiftete DolchNu GongCarpat

•Card abilities that create attacks are not causing damage - the attack is. Also, any damage bonus card abilities that were applied to the attack are not dealing damage to the opponent, but rather adding damage to an attack.

•If a card does not create an attack, but requires some other affect to occur to deal damage (like Carpat above), it can be affected by Kusubekawasugakeodoshi.

Question: I reveal Bonaid this round, and I've just hit a basic attack with Auitzotl. Can I make an attack with Shestopper rolling 12 dice, then excluding 6?

•Yes.

Hata Bi + Shestoper

1) If you use Hati Bi with the scottish chick and you rolled lower than 9 and the roll is set to nine would her +1 damage ability kick in?

2) Also, if the above happened and it did trigger +1 damage, how would that react with shestoper, woould it trigger each time it happened, or would it trigger just once per set of three attack rolls made with shestoper?

3) Lastly, lets say i rolled double 3's and the roll was set to 9, would that result in a critical hit?

•By 'scottish chick', I assume you are referring to Sgàthach an Eilein Sgiathanaich:

'If your attack roll matches any players’ initiative for any round, that attack deals +1 damage.'

•In the future, please take the time to look up the card names you are referring to instead of using possibly derrogatory nicknames.

1) Yes. You would have met the condition on Sgàthach an Eilein Sgiathanaich's ability.

2) You could possibly gain +3 damage from Sgàthach an Eilein Sgiathanaich's ability.

3) Yes. Setting a roll does not affect the doublesness of the dice.

So, if I have Shestoper and Allt, and my opponent has Thahe H (TH) and the Poison Knife, and I hit with 3 of the rolls, how much damage is dealt to my opponent? That is, does Allt mean that the 'deal this weapons damage for each attack roll that hits' can't be reduced by TH, or does Allt just mean that the damage is now set to 3, and can actually be reduced to 1 by TH....

•If I read this correctly, the question comes down to this:

•Is damage dealt by a Shestoper attack considered to be attack damage, and therefore able to be reduced by Thahe? Or is it considered to be damage from a card ability (since Shestoper reads 'deal this weapon's damage for each attack that hits'), and therefore not influenced by Thahe?

•The damage dealt by a Shestoper attack is indeed damage dealt by an attack. Shestoper's card ability simply explains how much damage that attack deals. Therefore, Thahe can reduce that damage.

•The bit about Dolch and Allt seems to be extraneous information. Dolch would set the maximum damage allowed by Thahe to be 1, but Allt has no influence on the situation at all.

Let's say Tyegilyai is being played against Shestoper.

Tyegilyai's ability is used after a Shestoper attack is declared. Does each Shestoper roll get -3? Or does just one of the rolls get -3?

•In the same way that an ability that affects the 'first' or 'next' attack roll you make would affect all three attack rolls of the Shestoper attack, this ability does as well. Since Shestoper is an oddity - currently the only card that makes multiple simultaneous attack rolls, other card abilities are not worded to assume that there will be more than one attack roll per attack. However, the three attack rolls made for the shestoper share any bonuses or penalties that are given to the attack's attack roll.

If Hector swings with Shestoper, hits with the first roll, misses with the second, and misses with the third, which happens to be doubles...does that activate Hector's ability?

It says nothing about the 'attack' missing...it's all about 'you' missing.

•The only things that miss in Anachronism are attacks. If 'you' miss, you have made an attack that missed. If any of the attack rolls from Shestoper cause the attack to hit, Hector's ability cannot cause a free swing off of that attack.

Question: How many times can Ajax's ability trigger in a single attack? For instance, if I attacked with Shestoper and rolled [6,1][6,1][6,1] and the defense roll was [1,2] would the result be:

1) 4 damage (3 from shestoper, 1 from Ajax) to the opponent, and 1 damage to Ajax

2) 6 damage (3 from shestoper, 3 from Ajax) to the opponent, and 3 damage to Ajax

It seems to me that Ajax's ability will trigger once "When you hit" (as stated in the card ability) but what is unclear to me is whether Ajax's ability will "see" the three attack rolls and deal one damage for each attack roll that contains a 1 (assuming you hit with at least one attack, of course).

•You are correct in your thinking that the ability will only trigger once for the attack. Therefore, regardless of how many attack roll dice show a 1, you will only deal 1 damage to each warrior in the attack.

What is considered "at the same time"? In the same instance of rolling, or just around the same time? A good example of what I mean is Shestoper. When you attack with the weapon, you make three separate attack rolls. Though, it has been decided that these rolls are made simultaneously. So would that trigger Kremlin, seeing as you are rolling six dice "at the same time," or would Kremlin require each individual roll to be more than two dice?

•Kremlin only refers to rolls that contain more than 2 dice - such as those made when Bonaid Tri-iteagan is in effect.
