Tezcatlipoca was an important entity in Mesoamerican mythology. To the Aztecs, he was was a counterpart to Quetzalcoatl; depending on the story, the two of them worked together or destroyed each others' creations.

The god of beauty, night and war, his smoking mirror killed all who inhaled its fumes. The twin of Quetzalcoatl, together they captured the great monster Cipatli and created the lands from her body.
