Tiwaz

Page history last edited by MindBomber 17 years ago

Tiwaz is the one-handed Germanic god of combat, heroes, and glory. He gave his hand so that the Fenris-wolf could be bound.

Card Text

(9) Tiwaz (Earth)

GermanicInspirationDeity

Freier Himmel: After any player makes a critical hit, you may discard this card. If you do, the hit damages the attacker instead of the defender.

God of war and the patron god of justice, Tiwaz is the oldest of the gods, inspiring courage and heroism in battle. He sacrificed his right hand to bind the wolf Fenrir, who, if set free, would devour the sun. At the day of Ragnarok, he will die from his battle wounds, but not before he slays the hound Garm, the guardian of hell.

Warrior Pack

Tiwaz comes with the Arminius warrior pack.

Rulings

From the FAQ

Tiwaz

•The damage is still being dealt by the player making the attack - in effect, they are damaging themselves.

•The damage is the same as for any critical hit: double the base damage and add damage bonuses.

•The attacking player cannot choose to not use their damage bonuses for any attacks, including one that is affected by Tiwaz.

•Note that Tiwaz does not change the player that is being hit, only who that hit damages. Cards with abilities that trigger 'when you are hit' or 'when you are criticaly hit' cannot be used if your opponent uses Tiwaz aganst you.

From the QCT

Fernando II de Aragón & Tiwaz

I have both of these cards in play and am playing a female warrior. My opponent attacks me and rolls a critical hit. I choose to discard Tiwaz to have the damage be dealt to my opponent. However, does the +1 damage from Fernando II kick in?

•The attacker and defender do not change when Tiwaz is used, therefore the hit is still being made against you. Since the damage increase ability is not optional, it will occur regardless of who is being damaged by the attack.

Uilleam Uallas & Tiwaz

Will Villiam's +1 he would take from a crit go to the attacker if I discard Tiwaz?

•Unlike Fernando, Uilleam's card ability specifically references damage Uilliam takes. In his case, it doesn't matter who the hit is against; if it's a critical and is damaging Uilleam, he will take the extra damage from it.

•If Uilleam uses Tiwaz to reflect a crit, his bonus does not apply, since he is not taking damage from that crit. If Uilleam is being hit by a crit or having one of his own reflected back by an opponent's Tiwaz, he will take additional damage.

Khauza & Tiwaz

I have a rules question about these two cards. If I have Khauza on table and I crit my opponent, then they use Tiwaz, can I use Khauza to reduce the damage? I'm not sure because the card ability is forcing me to take the damage but is the ability really causing the damage for this card to be able to work?

Basic question, does Khauza work against Tiwaz?

•Tiwaz does not, itself, deal damage. It changes the recipient of damage dealt by another source - the critical hit. Therefore, you can't use Khauza to protect against Tiwaz.
