Tomahawk

Page history last edited by MindBomber 17 years, 2 months ago

Though not the only tomahawk-style weapon in Anachronism, the Tomahawk might be the most flexible.

Card Text

(7) Tomahawk (2)

______
+0-1__
__
^
+1
______

American FrontiersmenWeaponAxe (1 Hand)

Retribution: After an opponent uses a card ability to attack you, you may immediately make an attack with this weapon at +2 against that opponent.

Hidden: At the start of any of your turns, you may discard one of your face-up support cards that you own to put this card into play from your discard pile.

Little impressed the Absaroke more than skill-at-arms. Beckwourth's bravery and ability with all manner of weapons secured him great renown very swiftly.

Illus.: April Lee • Set 7 • 13/100

Warrior Pack

Tomahawk comes with the James Beckwourth warrior pack.

Rulings

From the QCT

If my opponent uses Pou Whenua's action ability to attack me, and I have Tomahawk out, will I get the Tomahawk reaction attack before or after my opponent makes the Pou attack?

•Tomahawk's ability occurs after the action. Therefore, Tomahawk will make its attack after the Pou Whenua's attack is executed.

•An action ability is considered to be used if the action was paid to create the effect, but Tomahawk's trigger clearly states that the attack occurs after the action - thus, after the effects of the action are completed.

Gameplay

Players are still plumbing the depths of versatility that can be found in Tomahawk. On its surface, Tomahawk seems to be a great way to put the hurt on a deck that utilizes Pou Whenua, Pair o' Cutlasses, San Jie Gun, Lĕḥî-Ḥămôr, or any ability that grants extra weapon attacks. Or even another Tomahawk. The combination of "at +2" and no "if possible" gives this weapon a good chance at punishing such decks.

But wait, there's more! Has your opponent discarded or otherwise neutralized your weapon? If it helps, you can swap it for the Tomahawk in your discard pile. Or, you could play any weapon that says, "You may use another weapon." Then, flip up Loki, and after you receive your opponent's weapon, discard it to get Tomahawk! Or, you can build a five-warrior stable with extra non-weapon Reveal cards and fewer weapons. After you use a one-shot card (like, say, Zeus or Savasi Nicopolis), you discard it to get the Tomahawk.
