- Though Kalkriese Hill is accepted by most scholars as the site of Varusschlacht, some have posited other sites.
- Likewise, the popular theory is that the battle took place over three days; other historians believe the conflict was much shorter.
- Waldlande, roughly translated, means "forested land/country."
