Völkerwanderung is the German term for the Migration Period in mid- to late-1st millennium Europe. Already strained, the Roman Empire was ill-equipped to deal with this mass influx of Germanic and Slavic peoples.

Gameplay
A fun trick to use with cards like Völkerwanderung or Ballestero Vasco, is to get around the Reveal** ability. The easiest way to do this is to use a card with an ability that says "Turn this card face down and swap it with another of your face-down cards. Turn the other card face up." Wakhan Thanka and Hilia Plia are good examples of such cards. By skipping the step where you place Völkerwanderung into the arena, you can avoid it being discarded.
(Or being used by an opponent, on the off-chance they run Queen Anne's Revenge.)

Trivia
- This time period is known by various names; Völkerwanderung carries a more romantic vision, "Barbarian Invasions" is weighted with cultural prejudice -- hence the more neutral "Migration Period."
